Libraries & SDKs
NEAR’s tooling moved fast in 2025–2026: near-api-js folded its modular packages back into one, NEAR Connect replaced Wallet Selector as the recommended wallet connector, NEAR Lake stopped indexing, and the JavaScript near-cli was archived. Old tutorials still point at the previous generation.
This module is a curated, checked map of the libraries, SDKs and services worth knowing today — each with its official repo or docs link, a clear official / community / deprecated status, and a "which one should I pick?" rule of thumb.
Each lesson is one category: contract SDKs, testing, JavaScript and other clients, CLI and build tools, data and indexing, and cross-chain. If you come from Ethereum, look for the EVM callouts that map each tool to its Foundry, Hardhat, viem or The Graph equivalent.

What you’ll learn
- Choose the right contract SDK and helper crates (near-sdk-rs, near-contract-standards, near-plugins, near-sdk-contract-tools).
- Test contracts at both levels: unit tests with
testing_env!and integration tests with near-workspaces and the sandbox. - Pick between near-api-js, near-kit, NEAR Connect and Wallet Selector for scripts versus browser dApps.
- Use near-cli-rs and cargo-near to scaffold, build reproducibly and deploy.
- Decide when RPC, a data API (FastNEAR, NearBlocks, Pikespeak, Intear) or your own indexer is the right source of data.
- Tell Chain Signatures, NEAR Intents / 1Click and Omni Bridge apart, and know which one fits a cross-chain feature.
- Recognise deprecated tools (JS near-cli, near-sdk-as, near-api-py,
@near-js/*packages, NEAR Lake) in older tutorials.

3. Apps & clients
- JavaScript libraries & wallet connectorsThe NEAR JavaScript libraries: near-api-js v7, the typed JSON-RPC client, near-kit, NEAR Connect and Wallet Selector — what each does and when to use it.
- Rust, Python & mobile clientsNEAR client libraries beyond JavaScript: near-api-rs, near-jsonrpc-client-rs, py-near and the Swift and Kotlin JSON-RPC clients — official vs community.
